When you use caption phone service, a trained captioning agent or speech recognition technology connects to the call audio and transcribes the conversation just for you.\u00a0<\/p><h3 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" aria-level=\"2\">What is the difference between IP relay and IP CTS?\u00a0<\/h3><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Captioned phone service, like CaptionCall and CaptionCall Mobile, isn\u2019t the only form of telecommunications relay service.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><ul><li style=\"list-style-type: none;\"><ul><li>With IP CTS, the user receives captions of their phone conversation as they and the other party speak to each other. It\u2019s a good option for people who are hard-of-hearing or deaf, but comfortable voicing what they want to say.\u00a0<\/li><li>In the case of IP Relay, the user types what they want to say and the service provider reads the statement to the hearing person on the other end of the line, then sends that person\u2019s reply back to the user as a caption. It\u2019s for deaf, deafblind, and hard-of-hearing people who do not speak and either do not use sign language (or use tactile signing) or simply prefer text-based communication.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><p>The federal government covers the cost of these services to provide equal access to communication by phone for people who are hard-of-hearing, Deaf, or DeafBlind. The funding comes from fees for telecommunications providers \u2014 which they often pass on to their customers; you might have noticed the small charge on your itemized phone bills \u2014 and goes into the TRS Fund, which the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) manages.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-56ce6c0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"56ce6c0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" id=\"qualify\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2 aria-level=\"1\">How Do You Qualify for Caption Phone Service?<\/h2><p>Because IP CTS uses federal funds, only people who qualify can use the service. To qualify, you must have hearing loss that makes captions necessary to use the phone effectively.
